Creators of the CW's upcoming Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries , say fans should not expect a miniaturized version of iconic HBO show.

"We didn't want to do the Baby Muppets syndrome – 'Oh it's baby Samantha! It's baby Miranda!' " executive producer Amy B. Harris told SATC fans during a screening of the premiere episode on Monday at New York City's School of Visual Arts.

Instead, Harris and creator Candace Bushnell, who was also on hand for the premiere, hope to give 1984's Carrie Bradshaw – played by AnnaSophia Robb – her own identity and a new set of friends, reports Huffington Post .

Bradshaw, who is now still in high school and living in suburban Connecticut, has two BFFs named Maggie and Mouse, a guy friend named Walt and a love interest named Sebastian, played by Austin Butler. It's an internship suggested by her father, a widower, that brings her to her beloved Manhattan.

But Harris promises the new show will be a nod to its original. "We planted fun Easter eggs for our audience," she said.

Many of those will come in the form of fashion. Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman, who worked on Sex and the City as Patricia Fields's assistant for three seasons, will be at the stylish helm.

"I know that there are a lot of women – a lot of people around the world – who hold Carrie Bradshaw as this fashion icon," Daman said at the premiere. "So to be able to go back in time and pre-design who she is and lay the DNA of where she is going is very important."
