With Halloween quickly approaching – and a monster storm keeping many of us indoors – it's prime horror movie-watching time.

On Monday, IMDB.com released its list of the top 10 horror movies of all time, as determined by user votes and ratings, and it’s a list of modern favorites and spooky throwbacks.

1. The Shining (1980)

Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall star in Stanley Kubrick's classic, based on the Stephen King novel. A nice, long psychological fright-fest that'll make you think twice about staying anywhere without cell service.

2. Alien (1979)

You'll cheer for Sigourney Weaver, but a word to the wise/anyone too young to have seen this one: Skip the Halloween candy during the gory finale.

3. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

More funny than it is creepy, but with admirable zombie make-up jobs.

4. Psycho (1960)

Every horror movie fan must see Hitchcock's shower scene that started them all. Janet Leigh is the one having the good, scream fun.

5. Cloverfield (2008)

This standout found-footage flick features Manhattan disaster scenes even scarier than the one currently going on outside our windows.

6. Zombieland (2009)

Check out Emma Stone years before she did the Dirty Dancing lift with Ryan Gosling.

7. Saw (2004)

The sick serial killer blockbuster spawned plenty of sub-par copycats that don't hold a candle to the original.

8. The Exorcist (1973)

The gold standard of possession movies that few, if any, have lived up to is thoroughly terrifying. Save for the oft-mocked pea soup scene, starring Linda Blair.

9. 28 Days Later (2002)

A slick, modern zombie movie with more than its share of genuine scares.

10. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Johnny Depp, at his spookiest.

Tell us what you think about IMDB's list in the comments. Did their users get it right? What movies are missing?
