The first Battle Rounds brought out the best in the singers Monday on The Voice . But in the end, the night belonged to Amanda Brown and Trevon Hunt, whose rendition of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" blew away the judges.

"I should not have paired y'all together. I'm mad … I don't want to lose either one of you!" Cee Lo Green, who struggled to declare a victor, grumbled.

The duet was "hands down the best performance we've had in the Battle Rounds so far," Christina Aguilera said.

Green ultimately chose Hunt, and Brown went with her "gut feeling" by choosing an ecstatic Adam Levine as her new coach. "He is my true competition now, because he has the other best [contestant]," Green said of Levine.

Armed with special musical advisers Billie Joe Armstrong, Rob Thomas, Michael Bublé and Mary J. Blige, the contestants were generally at the top of their game Monday.

Blake Shelton kept Scottish rocker Terry McDermott on his team after pitting him against former wrestler Casey Muessigmann to belt out Kansas's "Carry On Wayward Son." "Terry knows who he is as an artist," Shelton said.

Mother-daughter duo 2Steel Girls made a strong effort on the Dixie Chicks' "Sin Wagon," but Shelton favored country sweetheart Gracia Harrison.

Levine and Blige had Bryan Keith and Collin McLoughlin go head to head with an upbeat version of Sublime's "Santeria." When Levine chose Keith, McLoughlin became the first steal of the night, transferring to Team Blake.

YouTube star JR Aquino won the hearts of millions online, but that didn't help his performance of Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl," as Diego Val kept his place on Team Cee Lo, advised by Rob Thomas.

Aguilera's De'Borah struggled to learn the Police's "Message in a Bottle," but with some guidance from Armstrong, she made it her own in the end, beating out Nelly's Echo to remain on Team Christina.
