A living legend in the world country music with a record 59 number one hits to his name, Strait, 60, told reporters Wednesday at Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum that after three decades of performing, he'll take his show on the road for a final time next year with the Cowboy Rides Away Tour.
"This is going to be a very special, emotional tour for me," Strait said in a statement. "Everywhere we're going holds fond memories and I’m looking forward to paying my respects."
Martina McBride will open for Strait on the tour, which begins Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas, and will stretch into 2014 with other opening acts taking over.
The tour will be a last chance for fans to see the Texas troubadour live, but the star, who has sold more than 68 million albums in his career, says he'll continue to record.
