The London-born actor was last seen on July 10 exiting London's Royal Court theater, where he was in the midst of rehearsals for the play Talk Show.
His body was reportedly discovered at Splash Point cliffs in East Sussex on July 12, but the body was only confirmed to be his on Wednesday.
The police are not treating his death as suspicious, according to the BBC.
The actor was supposedly in good spirits when he was last seen, and a text message to his girlfriend on July 10 is his last known communication.
After his disappearance, family and friends put out a call for his safe return.
His 24-year-old son, Rahul Bhattacharjee-Prashar, told London's Evening Standard his disappearance was "completely out of character."
"He was doing well in his career and everything seemed to be going okay. I just don't know what has happened," he told the paper. "Please, we are just worried sick."
Famous friends including Kim Cattrall, Stephen Fry and Bend It Like Beckham and ER star Parminder Nagra Tweeted messages seeking his safe return in the days after he went missing.
After news of his death became public, Nagra Tweeted a message of mourning.
"Very sad to hear the news about Paul Bhattacharjee," she wrote. "My thoughts are with his loved ones."
