In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw lots of killer earrings and miles of abs, and realized that over-accessorizing is probably not going to catch on.
Up: Statement earrings. Since cool, unusual studs are all over the pages of fall fashion magazines, it seems that stars are getting their big, shoulder-grazing earrings out of their system before September arrives. Sofia Vergara is one of many stars to pair killer danglers with simple dresses — check out Rosario Dawson, Heidi Klum and even Lady Gaga pulling off the same look.
Up: Two-piece everything. Great news for the ab-obsessed Lily Collins: It appears that midriff-baring styles aren’t going anywhere. Kristin Cavallari made showing off your stomach look as easy as slipping on a pair of killer heels, while Lake Bell, Ciara and Collins (of course) all opted to show that same sliver of skin.
Down: Too much stuff. Yes, Ciara, we know that the ’90s look of shirts wrapped around the waist is coming back in a big way. But we think you should study these other stars who tried the trend before opting for this look again. In this case, it’s a little too much look when worn with the jacket, the high-tops and all that hair. For those trying to pull this off, this is a cautionary tale of keeping things streamlined and sassy rather than overdesigned.
