Just ask Amanda Roman, who casually told a friend she fantasized about getting engaged and married on the same day. Then-boyfriend Ryan Leak overheard the conversation and made her dream come true by secretly planning their wedding – with more than a little help from Pinterest.
The Dallas-based pair tied the knot on June 7 in front of more than 100 guests in Miami, just hours after Leak, 27, got down on one knee and proposed.
"I married a dreamer and I got a dream-style wedding," Roman told Good Morning America of the surprise nuptials.
Although Roman, 25, was not officially part of the planning process, the details of the wedding were all hers, thanks to a Pinterest page she titled "My Dream Wedding."
Leak combed through all 224 photos, and covertly enlisted the help of family and friends to make fantasy a reality, even changing people's names in his cell phone address book so she wouldn't get suspicious.
What motivated him to do all this?
"I just tried to listen to my girlfriend as best as I possibly could," Leaks, who released a documentary about the experience, told HLN. "She could have said anything and I would have tried to pull it off."
Leak worked on the secret wedding for more than a year and a half. He even devised a plan to have her buy the dress without getting suspicious, then had a friend snatch it from her closet and bring it to the wedding. (Leak sent Roman on a trip right before the wedding, so he had time to handle final details without having to sneak around.)
The whirlwind day was not without last-minute drama – Roman's flight to Miami was canceled, so Leak had to pull strings to make sure she made it to the wedding in time – but fate was on their side. They swapped I do's on their five-year dating anniversary, as he planned.
The day was a whirlwind for the couple, but fortunately they had a little downtime afterwards to process it all. The newly hitched duo honeymooned in Naples and Laguna Beach. And yes, Leaks secretly planned that, too.
