The Australian actor – best known for his leading role as Spartacus on the Starz series Spartacus: War of the Damned – married Aussie singer-actress Erin Hasan in his hometown of Melbourne on Sunday, the couple confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
"I'm beyond happy!" says an ecstatic McIntyre. "I saw true love as a child and dreamt that one day I'd have the same. Today is the first day knowing that I'll have that forever."
McIntyre exchanged traditional vows with Hasan in front of 120 guests at the historic St John's Anglican Church Toorak. The theme of the late afternoon ceremony was vintage elegance with a touch of fairytale.
The bride, 28, wore a Monique Lhuillier gown while the groom, 31, looked dashing in a Giorgio Armani tuxedo.
The pair, who have been dating since 2010, got engaged at Walt Disney World in December 2012. McIntyre caused plenty of hearts to swoon when he dressed up as Prince Charming and fitted Hasan with a Disney princess gown. During dinner he got down on bended knee and proposed with a ring he designed himself. A month later, he told PEOPLE about falling for Hasan.
"I'm lucky to have met the girl of my dreams," he said last January. "I knew she was the one when we met. I met her at a friend's party and I remember thinking, 'If I sit down and talk to her, I'm going to fall in love with her.' From the get go, I reckon that's the one. I quickly fell in love with her. I just knew."
After the ceremony, the newlyweds celebrated at the sweeping Rippon Lea Estate. The reception was decorated with pastel roses, vintage books and hanging antique style jars with twinkling tea lights and flowers. Friends and family enjoyed a sweets buffet, gelato cart and canapés when they arrived.
"Liam and I have always both been inspired by the elegance of the 20s, the beautiful movies of the 30s and 40s," Hasan tells PEOPLE. "Touches of vintage charm of the time period and our mutual love of Disney and the fairytales were featured throughout the wedding and reception."
McIntyre (who next appears on the big screen as warrior Sotiris in The Legend of Hercules on Jan. 10) personally chose the night's dinner entree. "Liam's a traditionalist at heart, so for the mains he wanted a choice of two beautifully crafted menu items of porterhouse steak and chicken," she says. Dessert included a candy flower encrusted four-tiered cake.
Now that McIntyre, who was named one of PEOPLE's Sexiest Men Alive in 2012, has said "I do," he hopes to be the best husband than he can be.
"I want to live up to my name – in Irish, Liam means 'determined protector' and I want to make sure Erin is always safe and supported," he says. "If I can make her life better, then I'll feel I've done a good job."
