James Franco can add one more item to his already impressive resume.

The actor will star in a Ford Fusion Hybrid commercial – which also features actor Rob Riggle – during this Sunday's Super Bowl, and it's set to air between the coin toss and kickoff.

"Super Bowl commercials are such a big thing now, they're almost mini-movies. So it sounded like it could be fun, and it was," Franco tells PEOPLE.

"One of the concepts involved me kind of doubling certain things that Rob Riggle does in the first part of the piece. He [had] certain scenes like sitting on the couch with a Chihuahua and then my section I'm on the couch, but in a huge villa-style mansion. And instead of sitting with a Chihuahua, I'm sitting with a tiger," explained Franco about his 60-second appearance.

But this isn't the 35-year-old actor's first time in a Super Bowl commercial.

"It's funny, I started my professional career as an actor on a Super Bowl commercial. It was the first job that ever paid me as an actor, and now here I am in a full circle," admitted Franco about his first ad: a Pizza Hut commercial.

Along with being an Oscar-nominated actor, Franco is also teaching at the University of Southern California, which is where he will be instead of watching the Super Bowl.

"I teach Mondays, but this coming week I have to teach the class on Sunday. So all of my students are showing their devotion to cinema by going to class instead of watching the Super Bowl," Franco said with a laugh.

"We might have the class watch the commercial only because it goes on before the kickoff, so maybe we'll watch that and get into class."

Although he'll be missing the Super Bowl, Franco said he plans on watching the Oscars, which he cohosted with Anne Hathaway in 2011.

"I'll probably watch it, usually we get together with friends and watch it."

As for any advice he has for this year's Academy Awards host, Ellen DeGeneres?

"Ellen does her show every day in front of a live audience, so I don't think she needs any advice from me," laughed Franco.
