A French reality TV star with a striking resemblance to Kim Kardashian has been charged with the attempted murder of her boyfriend.

Nabilla Benattia, the star of Allô Nabilla, has been accused of stabbing her boyfriend, Thomas Vergara, ABC News reports.

Police were called to Benattia's Paris apartment early Friday morning, where they found Vergara with a severe knife wound in his chest, according to the Agence France-Presse. His wounds were considered serious but not life-threatening.

Benattia, 22, first claimed that Vergara's wounds were a result of an attempted burglary – she told police that three people had tried to break into their apartment and that she had tried to stop them. But once surveillance footage disproved her version of the events, Benattia amended her story, telling police that Vergara "had taken cocaine and accidentally stabbed himself during a violent dispute with her," reports the AFP.

After being charged on Sunday with second-degree murder by the police department of Nanterre, Benattia changed her story once again. Since her fingerprints were found on the knife, she and her lawyer, Martin Desrues, are claiming that Vergara hit her several times while under the influence and that she acted in self-defense because she feared for her life, reports MYTF1 News.

Benattia shot to fame during the 2013 season of a French show called The Angels of Reality TV, in which she lived in a Florida apartment with a handful of other French girls aspiring for fame in America. Benattia's goal, unlike her castmates who wanted to become singers or actresses, was to become an "It Girl" like Kim Kardashian. A pregnant Kardashian even dropped by the show to pay Benattia a visit.

Benattia eventually landed her own show, Allô Nabilla, and the last season ended with Vergara proposing to her.

Benattia is currently being held in the women's prison maison d'arrêt de Versailles, though Vergara has yet to press charges against her.

A judge has ruled the reality star a "sensitive prisoner," Vanity Fair reported Wednesday, and is being protected from other inmates.
