The news that Emma Watson was due to receive MTV’s second annual Trailblazer Award was no surprise to us. After all, the actress has been a style trailblazer for years.

Since being picked to play Hermione in the Harry Potter films, the star’s style has evolved from safe to sexy and surprising over the years. In fact, Watson has talked about how fashion has helped her evolve away from the gawky, brainy character and into her own woman. And it definitely shows: Narrowing her best red carpet moments down to three was tough.

The star made her first major appearance on the style scene when she became the face of Burberry in 2009 — and showed up at the line’s fashion show in a glam golden minidress that made the formerly shy star a major standout. Soon she was designing collections for Alberta Ferretti and landing ad campaigns for LancĂ´me.

Our next favorite moment: Watson’s jaw-dropping pixie, which she chopped super-short as soon as she was allowed to ditch Hermione’s long curls. Though she got some initial skepticism, she put any doubts to rest when she hit the Deathly Hallows red carpet in this killer black lace mini that showcased the do to perfection.

Finally, the star proved she had fully come into her own as a fashion plate at the N.Y.C. premiere of the Potter films’ final installment in this elegant, envelope-pushing Bottega Veneta gown with an unfinished bodice and draped bronze skirt. She hasn’t played it safe on a red carpet since — befitting her role as a style trailblazer.

We’re excited to see what she wears to pick up her honor at the MTV Movie Awards April 14, but until then, tell us: What’s your favorite Emma Watson style moment?
