Three months after Fleetwood Mac canceled their Australian and New Zealand tours following the news that bass player John McVie had been diagnosed with cancer, the legendary rockers returned to the stage to play a show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Dec. 30.
They also played a private New Year's Eve concert the next night and have another private show scheduled for Jan. 8.
Prior to the New Year's Eve show, Stevie Nicks told ABC Radio that she thought performing would be "really good for John."
When Mick Fleetwood announced McVie at the end of the show, he received huge cheers, as well as a single red rose. McVie, 68, has not publicly commented on either the diagnosis – he has yet to disclose the type of cancer he is battling – or his swift return to the stage.
His comeback has drawn some A-list admirers: John Mayer and Katy Perry attended Monday's show, and the starstruck couple were apparently ecstatic when a special song to them.
At one point, Mayer hijacked Perry's Twitter account to post the news, saying: "John here. Katy can't write because she's getting over Stevie Nicks dedicating 'Landslide' to us at the Fleetwood Mac concert. Unforgettable."
