A rep for the usually press-shy director, 78, issued a brief response to the open letter from estranged daughter Dylan Farrow, who detailed what she alleged was sexual abuse she suffered when she was 7 years old.
"Mr. Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful," the rep tells PEOPLE. "He will be responding very soon."
Farrow, 28, who has since changed her name, made headlines Saturday when New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote an op-ed detailing Allen's alleged abuse, and linked to Farrow's open letter to Allen on his blog.
"That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up," she said.
In 1993 Connecticut authorities opted not to prosecute Allen, concluding Farrow was too "fragile" to testify even though they found "probable cause."
A team of investigators at Yale-New Haven Hospital studied Dylan's accusations as part of the case and concluded that no sexual abuse had taken place and described Dylan as having "difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality." But a Manhattan custody judge deemed Allen's conduct with Dylan "grossly inappropriate," and denied him visitation rights.
