He was with his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on Wednesday at a special new parents' party as part of their April tour Down Under.
On the plush light gray patterned carpet of the Blandor Room, of Government House, which was littered with toys including building bricks and a xylophone, the 8-month-old George was one of the biggest babies there – "Quite a bruiser," one onlooker remarked.
He was dressed in $129 blue dungaree shorts decorated with a ship on the front by Rachel Riley and soft blue shoes.
Kate watched on protectively, occasionally wiping his chin, as William chatted to some of the other parents.
"It's madness, there are babies everywhere!" William remarked.
Kate, in a black and white geometric dress by Tory Burch, also held her son as she chatted to some of the parents. To the delight of the group, Kate held George's hands so that he could try standing.
At one point, inquisitive George reached out to one of the other children. He also confidently helped himself to other children's toys.
Coming two days after his public bow at Wellington airport, George's first major royal engagement was part of the celebration of The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society, a not-for-profit family health organization.
William and Kate and their little son arrived in New Zealand Monday and, following an initial welcome, headed to a luxury retreat to get accustomed to the new time zone and beat their jet-lag.
