Standing alongside husband Prince William at the Royal Variety Performance in London Thursday, Princess Kate showed off one of her most regal looks to date — a long black, lace Diane von Furstenberg gown with her hair swept up in an elegant, loose chignon and some amazing accessories. See it below from all angles.

“The black dress was stunning,” fashion expert Hilary Alexander tells PEOPLE, adding: “That fit-and-flare shape really shows off the waist, skimming over the hips and stomach beautifully and we saw that tiny little baby bump — it was gorgeous.”

Kiki McDonough, who designed the 18-carat white gold, blue topaz and pavĂ© diamond earrings Kate teamed with the dress, couldn’t have agreed more. “I thought she looked absolutely beautiful,” she tells PEOPLE. Kate has worn McDonough’s earrings before and has about 8 items from the British jewelry brand.

Earlier in the week, Kate, who is around 16 weeks pregnant, chose another fit-and-flare dress — a crepe shirtdress from British label Goat, teamed with new Stuart Weitzman for Russell and Bromley flat boots at a SportsAid event.

So is the soon-to be-mom-again adapting her look for pregnancy already?

“I think she looks more womanly,” says Alexander approvingly, adding: “and slightly more grown up too.”
