NFL Player Shoots Girlfriend, Himself: Reports

A Kansas City Chiefs player shot his girlfriend and himself on Saturday, police have confirmed.

A team source tells CBS Sports that linebacker Jovan Belcher was involved in a shooting at the football team facility. ABC News reports that the player shot himself in front of his coaches.

Police have not confirmed the identities of the deceased.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp said two calls came in to authorities Saturday morning: one from a woman who said her daughter had been shot at a residence, then one from the Chiefs' practice facility. When authorities arrived, they heard a gunshot, Snapp said.

"When the officers arrived, when they were pulling up, they actually observed a black male who had a gun to his head and he was talking to a couple of coaches out in the parking lot," Snapp said. "As officers pulled up, and began to park, that's when they heard the gunshot and it appears the individual took his own life."

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

According to NFL.com, the shooting occurred at 8:10 a.m. local time near Arrowhead Stadium, and police declined to release the player's name since the shooting is under investigation.

Dr. Andrew Moore Performs Life-Changing Surgeries for Free

When an increasing number of his patients couldn't pay for their life-saving surgeries, Dr. Andrew Moore decided he wasn't going to just stand by or send them away without doing anything.

So he found a way to make the procedures completely free of charge.

The Lexington, Kentucky-based plastic surgeon initially started waiving his fees for some patients, but soon found that wasn't reaching far enough. He grew disheartened every time a patient told him he couldn't afford to have a melanoma removed because he had no insurance. "It was so frustrating," says Moore, 63. "How was I going to take care of them?"

"We figured out the things we needed to do to make this work," says Moore. "It makes a difference in individual lives."

In 2005 the doctor launched Surgery on Sunday, a nonprofit group of more than 400 volunteer surgeons, nurses and medical professionals who perform free gall bladder removals, orthopedic repairs and other outpatient procedures in a donated surgical facility in Lexington.

To date, Moore's group has performed about 4,500 surgeries – and has a waiting list of more than 500. The program has also spawned offshoots in Louisville and three other Lexington hospitals, with the hope to expand nationwide.

Raising funds through grants and donations to cover malpractice insurance and medical supplies, Moore's band of medical good Samaritans has changed the lives of people like Michael Weyls, who lived in pain and terror after being diagnosed with a cancerous lesion he couldn't afford to have removed.

A doctor he knew referred him to Surgery on Sunday; Moore performed three surgeries and rebuilt Weyls's nose. "It could've killed me, and Dr. Moore worked a miracle," says Weyls. "I thank God for this man."

What Should Fred Savage Name His Newborn Son?

The mystery has been solved: The reason behind Fred Savage‘s decision to not divulge details surrounding his new son‘s name is because … well, he doesn’t have one!

But leaving the hospital sans a moniker has become a tradition for the director and his wife Jennifer, who are also parents to Oliver Philip, 6, and Lily Aerin, 4½.

“We started this really tough precedent for ourselves where we just seem to leave the hospital with no name, and kind of live with the baby for a little while,” the former Wonder Years star told PEOPLE during Details 2012 Hollywood Mavericks event in Los Angeles on Thursday.

However, with a Friday deadline, the couple are under a serious time crunch. “The paperwork is due at the hospital tomorrow afternoon, so we gotta figure it out,” Savage shares.

“But we’re narrowing it down. We’re working on it — just as you are! We have some names in mind, but we kind of let the baby tell us a little bit.”

While the proud parents are caught up in the name game, Oliver and Lily have happily stepped into their new roles as big brother and sister.

“You’re always worried about how your kids will respond to a new baby, but they’re super excited and love holding him and being with him,” Savage says of the “awesome” sibling bond.

And with a new baby in the house, the family of five is looking forward to the upcoming holidays. “We do a lot of baking,” he shares.
