"You blame yourself. You're the father who's responsible and clearly failed," the Irish rocker, 63, told ITV News in the U.K. Wednesday evening.
"For anybody watching who has a dead kid and you're a parent," he added, "you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go over, you go over, over. What could you have done? You do as much as you can."
Peaches, a model and TV presenter, was just 25 when she died in April. An inquest into her death found that the mother of two had started using heroin again in February, after using a substitute drug for two and a half years.
Geldof knew she was being treated for heroin addiction. "She was super bright," he said. "She knew what life was supposed to be, and God bless her, she tried very hard to get there."
He added that the constant reminders in the media of her mother's death—Geldof's former wife Paula Yates died of a heroin overdose, too, in 2000—had "damaged" Peaches and his other children.
Geldof said he can escape some of the sadness by performing with his band the Boomtown Rats, who are back on the road.
"It is utterly cathartic," he said. "Those two hours and I am drained. In every sense it empties, it drains my mind. Onstage I'm lost in this thing, and it's a very brief respite."
