Unfortunately, Melissa McCarthy missed that memo.
The comedian recalled an embarrassing incident from her Halloween past on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, back when she and husband Ben Falcone lived on the same block as the Maroon 5 crooner – and scored an invite to his annual bash.
"I'm pretty sure we got a pity invite just so we wouldn't call the cops," she joked.
The St. Vincent star showed up in a short, curly wig, oversized shades, strangely patterned shirt and mismatched scarf, an ode to her Aunt Bernice.
Needless to say, she didn't exactly fit in.
"Every single woman was in a different kind of bikini. 'What are you?' 'I'm a cave girl!' Bikini. 'I'm a medic!' Just two crosses, and there's a stethoscope around her waist," McCarthy said. "Literally, people were like, 'What are you?' And I'm like, 'I'm my aunt Bernice from Skokie! And they're like, 'Why would you do that?'"
