Whether elaborately, cleverly or just plain ol' hilariously costumed, cosplayers are the beating heart and soul of comic conventions. And this attendee has taken the art to new levels, as this picture (circulated on social media earlier today – New York Comic Con wrapped up Sunday) shows.
This man took it upon himself to dress as characters from multiple Johnny Depp films, a postmodern experiment in actor worship that we can describe as pretty cool.
In no particular order, this costume references Edward Scissorhands (the um, scissor hands), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (glasses and cigarette holder), Pirates of the Caribbean (hair, bandanna and beard), The Rum Diary (the camera), Dark Shadows (the right hand), The Lone Ranger (the bird on his head), Alice in Wonderland (the shoes/pants) and various period dramas like Public Enemies, Ed Wood, Dead Man and – depending on your definition of "period drama" – Sweeney Todd (the pocket watch, bow tie and sheriff's badge, the last of which could also be a reference to Rango).
Cool? Creepy? Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments.
