If you were surprised to see Kate Upton on the back cover of the latest Victoria’s Secret catalog, well, join the club. Upton herself was shocked, considering that just last year, a Victoria’s Secret booker said Upton would never be considered for the brand.
Though Upton has graced the cover of not one, but two Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers, and just scored her first Vogue cover this month, not everyone was sold on her popularity as a model.

Comments from Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show model booker Sophie Neophitou went viral last year after she told the New York Times , “We would never use Kate” because of her “too common” looks. “She’s like a footballer’s wife,” said Neophitou, “with the too-blonde hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”
But the brand seems to be eating their words, as Upton appeared in Victoria’s Secret lingerie on the back cover of their most recent catalog. Victoria’s Secret didn’t respond when asked for comment, but an Upton source tells PEOPLE, “Kate is not thrilled that Victoria’s Secret is using these photos. She is not contracted to work with Victoria’s Secret and was not notified before the images, taken in 2011, were used.”
In February last year, Upton fired back at Neophitou’s comments, telling Access Hollywood, “I’m doing fine in my career. I don’t need to walk down their runway.” We wonder if Victoria’s Secret’s change of heart means Upton will have one too.
