In fact, he's looking forward to five things in particular, in the near or distant future.
"The idea of having a house, a kid, a husband and a dog … I love that," the British crooner, 22, tells Teen Vogue in its November issue. "I also really want to open a coffee and flower shop one day, probably in Italy."
That kind of quiet life seems at odds with his newfound fame. Then again, Smith has always been humble. "Just because you're selling out shows, doesn't mean you deserve better treatment than the person next door," he says.
Yet, fame does have its perks. And one of the more staggering ones, to Smith, was standing in Beyoncé's dressing room at the MTV Video Music Awards in August and hearing her say, "I love your music – your voice sounds like butter!"
Indeed, Smith now says he found himself "nearly fainting" at that moment.
Reflecting on his success, Smith says he's simply been honest in his music. "I stand onstage and I wanna cry for the entire thing because people know my business," he says. "You all know me. You can read as many interviews as you want, but if you put on my record, I'm telling you, that is me."
And that honestly now extends to his life, not just his music – something that wasn't always the case.
"I wanted this so badly that I was willing to completely sell myself to become a pop star because I was poor," he says. "No one was complimenting me anymore, so I started to lose my faith. I thought, 'I'm going to have to dress a certain way, lose weight or sing a certain type of song.' But the truth is, I was okay just as I was."
