Anna Kendrick is the ultimate multi-hyphenate in Hollywood at the moment. She can sing, dance, act, Tweet hilariously — and now she can add “model handbags” to the list, thanks to her holiday campaign for Kate Spade New York. She took PEOPLE exclusively behind the scenes of the shoot, but before you get to ogle all the gorgeous photos in this week’s PEOPLE (on stands Friday), we thought we’d give you a little sneak peek.

“It was so much fun,” Kendrick tells PEOPLE of the shoot. “We went to all these old spots in Vegas, so it felt like we got in a time machine. It was so romantic and fun. There were eight guys on the shoot with me who were just cracking me up! Mostly in their 50s and 60s but a couple in their 30s, and the photographer kept being like, ‘Just try to get her attention. Try to get her to laugh.’ So these guys were just cracking me up. They were totally these Vegas big shots for the day.”
Kendrick posed in a variety of luxe Vegas-appropriate looks (fur hats! bejeweled minis! glam gowns!) while surrounded by a coterie of men holding the brand’s latest bag. And lest you think the bag is too small, know that Kendrick already has her tiny-bag essentials list down to a science. “Just wallet, keys and phone. Well, and my retainer.”

The star, who sums up her style in three words as “Lazy or classic” (hmm, sounds familiar) says she likes to be versatile in her style — not just low-key or super-glam. “I’m either! If I’m running to the grocery store, [I'm in] jeans and a T-shirt,” she says. “But when I go out, I’ve started enjoying looking nice, and that’s a fun new phase for me to be in. To me, when I want to look nice, I just want to go with something that’s flattering and classic.”
From her first splurge (a pair of $75 Ralph Lauren sunglasses) to her most recent (a Cartier orchid pin as a reward for Into the Woods), two things have remained constant: her Weezer tank from a concert 15 years ago (“This is embarrassing.”) and her love of Kate Spade New York bags (even before she was the spokeswoman, she wore them everywhere). “[It's what] I’ve always loved about Kate Spade, which is that it’s just gorgeous stuff. It’s timeless and it’s sophisticated, but it’s always a little bit playful.” Just like the lady herself.
