Upham, 32, was reported missing by her father on Oct. 6, and was last seen leaving her apartment on Sunday in Auburn, Washington, 20 miles south of Seattle, PEOPLE confirms.
"Our officers responded to her apartment where she lives with her parents on Sunday for a suicidal call," Commander Steve Stocker tells PEOPLE. "When our officers got there, she had already packed up some belongings and left the apartment, so the officers were not able to contact or find her."
The following day, Upham's father, Charles, wanted his daughter listed officially as a missing person. However, Upham does not fit the criteria for a "missing and endangered person," per Washington state law, in which the person's missing occurrence has to be "unexplainable, involuntary or suspicious," according to Stocker.
"As far as the information we have, she took some things with her, she has a bus pass and even access to some money, and [the case] has been assigned to a detective, but we aren't putting resources [to look for her]," says Stocker.
In the last year, police have responded to Upham's apartment four times for suicide calls, and according to past police reports, this is not the first time Upham has left home, Stocker says.
"She has not been in contact with her family or friends since her disappearance," Charles Upham wrote in a statement to media, saying his daughter had an unspecified "medical condition."
"We are doing everything within our means to bring our daughter home safe," her family posted on Upham's Facebook page.
The acclaimed Native American actress had been working recently, including filming a role alongside Jennifer Aniston earlier this year in the upcoming movie Cake.
