Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery in Bewitched

Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the Elizabeth Montgomery fantasy-comedy, NBC is developing a new take on the old story about a pretty witch and her very mortal husband, PEOPLE has confirmed.
The new iteration from Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (The Vow) fast-forwards the tale to focus on Samantha's granddaughter Daphne, a single twentysomething who, just like the women in her family, uses magic to get through life. But it can't conjure up love!
ABC, which aired the original sitcom from 1964-1972, was reportedly in the mix to buy the project but NBC prevailed, snapping up the potential romantic comedy for the 2015-16 TV season.
This isn't the first time Bewitched begat a spinoff. In 1977, ABC attempted to create a new comedy about Samantha's daughter called Tabitha that starred Lisa Hartman in the title role. It lasted one season. The original series was also adapted into a 2005 motion picture that starred Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell.
TV remakes are quite the rage right now.
Later this season, CBS is set to debut a reboot of The Odd Couple that stars Matthew Perry. Earlier this month, Showtime announced that it was bringing back Twin Peaks, Fox is looking to revisit The Greatest American Hero, and John Stamos is pushing for a Full House revival.
