An Indiana anesthesiologist shot and killed his wife just minutes after the last guest left their wedding party early Sunday morning.

George "Scott" Samson, 54, and his new wife, Kelly Ecker, 50, began bickering over their prenup agreement during their wedding reception in Terre Haute, Indiana. The argument became increasingly bitter when the party moved to the new couple's mansion, where guests left at 1:17 a.m. because of the fighting.

"Shortly after the last guest left, things went terribly wrong," Vigo County Sheriff Chief Deputy Clark Cottom told WTHI-TV.

At 1:20 a.m., Ecker made a series of frantic phone calls to 911 pleading for help. The first calls ended abruptly. But minutes later, Ecker phoned back begging for assistance.

"He's beating the s--- out of me," she told the operator. "He's got guns in here."

She called back a few minutes later and gave the address to the dispatcher. Before she could say anything else, she screamed, "Oh my God." Multiple gunshots rang out and the phone line went dead.

Sheriff deputies arrived to find Ecker dead of gunshot wounds to the neck and chest.

"Scott Samson had retreated to the basement," said Cottom. "The remote camera was able to determine that Samson was in the basement, unresponsive." He had died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

But the newlyweds were not the only ones in the home at the time of the shooting. According to police, Ecker's 10-year-old son from a previous marriage was in the mansion. An unidentified elderly couple were also in another part of the house.

The boy has been placed in the custody of Ecker's family. Samson's grown children were not in the house at the time of the shooting.

"We now have children without a parent," said Cottom. "It is a very tragic incident."
