Julianne Hough was a bright spot on the Dancing with the Stars judging panel, literally, thanks to her bright chartreuse gown and bold red lip. Check out all the scoop from the star and her glam squad, below!

“I’ve actually been in love with this Jenny Packham gown for a while now,” stylist Anita Patrickson tells PEOPLE. “I saw it on the runway in New York and have been dying to get my hands on it for Julianne. Chartreuse is one of those colors that really only a handful of people can carry off — Julianne, of course, is one of them!”
She and Hough both were in agreement on the bold green gown for the show. “Jules and I are usually on the same page when it comes to picking our favorite dresses at a fitting,” Patrickson says. “As soon as she put this on we were both swooning. It just flows so beautifully and so Julianne immediately started twirling around the fitting room — which in my mind is the sign of a great dress!”
“I am such a huge Jenny Packham fan. Her dresses always make me feel so beautiful!” Hough adds. “This dress is no exception. The bold color didn’t feel overwhelming at all; if anything I felt empowered and confident. The neckline is so elegant and the flow of the dress so graceful. I feel very spoiled that I get to wear such amazing pieces. We accessorized with one of my favorite jewelers, Neil Lane.”
For Patrickson, that meant a huge orchid brooch and smaller accessories to complement the statement piece. “We paired some stunning but delicate Neil Lane pearl and diamond drop earrings, a simple bracelet and a matching ring. Pearls often feel a little aging but the white iridescence of the pearls lit up the green and matched the orchid beautifully,” she says. “The trick when wearing a big block of bold color is to choose the accessories and beauty story wisely. Don’t try and compete and never let the color wear you.”

That “beauty story” Patrickson is referring to includes the bold “vermillion” lip applied by Spencer Barnes and the braid created by Riawna Capri. “With the free flowing elegant dress we wanted to do a similar feel for the hair, but as always, put a little Julianne twist on it, by adding a braid,” Capri tells PEOPLE. “It was Julianne’s favorite look so far — it was elegant, polished, yet free.”
Barnes echoes that Hough loved this look (centered around a NARS satin lip pencil in “Timanfaya”) the best of her looks so far. “The Jenny Packham gown lent us an immediate vibe that was flirty and feminine coupled with a grounding presence of color,” he says. The one big challenge to getting her camera ready? “Julianne’s adorable dog Lexie insisted on giving me a 10 minute tongue bath today. That created some distracting competition!”
