Were you angry upon seeing the major Grey’s Anatomy spoiler in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, which happened to arrive a day early for some subscribers in the U.S.? The magazine feels your pain — they apologized with a statement, but also seemed to confirm the spoiler itself.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spoiler Leaks: Entertainment Weekly Apologizes For Big Reveal

Entertainment Weekly apologized for the spoiler — Patrick Dempsey‘s surprising exit from the series — in a statement, which was released to HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Variety: “We are surprised that an EW subscriber may have received their issue a day earlier than planned. We always try our best to bring readers exclusive news first. We would like to apologize to fans of the show that learned the news ahead of time.”

Patrick’s exit from the series leaked via social media on April 23 after the new issue of Entertainment Weekly emerged on Instagram. A subscriber posted a photo of the pages, which show an image of Patrick and the headline “The Doctor is … Out.”

@entertainmentweekly how are you going to put that little, tiny, microscopic spoiler alert warning next to a full page picture of the smokin' hot @patrickdempsey and expect people to notice it!?! You literally just RUINED one of the most important moments of @greysabc in the history of the show!! I'm so FURIOUS right now that if I was also fast I'd be filming with Vin Diesel for the 8th installment. I'm seriously considering canceling my subscription. Is that an overreaction? @shondarhimes Am I right?

And if you look close enough, you can read the following sentences:

“Dark and twisty doesn’t even begin to describe last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, but nobody was more surprised at the dramatic exit of Dr. Derek Shepherd than Patrick Dempsey himself. The actor spoke exclusively to EW about checking out of Grey’s — for good.”

We still can’t believe this. We were hoping it wasn’t true, but EW seems to be confirming Patrick’s exit.
