To see Emma Watson on any red carpet, it’s hard to believe that she may not want to be perceived as a fashionista.

But in the August issue of Teen Vogue, the Bling Ring star confesses that she stepped back from her pet design projects for just that reason.

“I took a very conscious step back. I think people were getting confused,” she says. “They seemed to think that I was a fashionista or that fashion was my main thing, and I didn’t want that once I figured out I really did want to act.”

That doesn’t mean, of course, that she’s not willing to strike a stunning pose when it’s appropriate — as evidenced by her gorgeous spread for the magazine, accompanied by a punky pompadour hairdo with mini braids throughout (a far cry from her last super-ladylike editorial!)

She also confesses that her super-cool red carpet persona is all an act (“”Every now and again, I feel a bit wobbly before hitting a red carpet. So it’s always nice to bring friends, especially because I love to see their reactions!”) and shares some of her favorite places to shop (Topshop, Aritzia, Chanel, Christopher Kane … are you taking notes?) in the revealing interview.
