The incident occurred at MGM Grand's Ka, the same evening the company celebrated the opening on its 8th Vegas show, Michael Jackson ONE .
Although Las Vegas news reports have identified the performer, the Clark County Coroner's Office has not positively identified the person.
"We don't have family members notified yet," a representative for the coroner's office told PEOPLE.
It's the first reported death in the famed acrobatic company's 30-year history. A comment from Cirque officials is expected Sunday afternoon.
According to audience members, the performer was suspended by a wire during the latter part of the show when she simply fell.
One audience member Tweeted about the incident, saying the "wire snapped" and the performer "fell fast & awkwardly at least 50 feet".
The show was canceled after the incident.
Las Vegas Sun journalist John Katsilometes was first to report the tragedy.
