Eminem and Brittany Murphy in 8 Mile

Eminem made headlines with the release of his latest album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Tuesday. But on Nov. 6, 2002, the Grammy-winning rapper was generating buzz for another reason: the premiere of 8 Mile, his semi-autobiographical film about a struggling Detroit rapper.
In honor of the movie's anniversary, we're taking a bittersweet look back at Eminem with his costar Brittany Murphy, who tragically died at age 32 in 2009.
“It was crazy,” Eminem told Vibe in 2010 of Murphy's passing. "It’s crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person. It's crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting …"
