The stars of the iconic British comedy show Monty Python are set to reunite for a one-off show in London.
At a press conference on Thursday at London's Playhouse Theatre, the comedy legends John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin [founding member Graham Chapman died in 1989] put on a comic performance as they announced the details of their much anticipated show at London’s O2 Arena – their first in over three decades.
"People do really want to see the old hits but we don't want to do them in a predictable way. "The danger is that the audience know the script better than we do," Cleese said.
"Yes we will be twerking or is it tweeting? We are hoping that people will have forgotten so it will all appear new!" added Idle.
At the height of their popularity in the 1970’s, the group's British TV show Monty Python's Flying Circus became a phenomenon in their homeland and a cult hit across in the Atlantic.
"We had no idea it would be such a hit in America. The fact that it’s still going after 40 years is astounding," said Idle.
The project will be the first time that the group have appeared on stage together since they performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 1980, which Cleese said "was one of the most enjoyable things I ever did. That was a wonderful festival experience.”
With a combined age of 357, the group joked that "there would be dancers" to stand in front of them.
"After a hip replacement and a knee replacement there are certain things I will not be doing," said 74-year-old Cleese.
The live show will take place at London's O2 Arena on July 1, 2014.
