With only two eliminations left before the American Idol judges lose their ability to use their Judge's Save, speculation was rampant that it would be used Thursday night.
The Top 8 all gave strong performances Wednesday of the songs they first auditioned with in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban, but three contestants still had to be placed in the bottom 3 by host Ryan Seacrest.
This week the unlucky three were Malaya Watson, Sam Woolf and C.J. Harris. With the lowest number of votes and required to sing for his life in the competition, Woolf crooned "Babylon" by David Gray as the judges deliberated their verdict.
"We are unanimous. We are going to use the save tonight," Lopez announced. And with confetti usually saved for the winner on finale night, Woolf was lifted up in the air by his fellow contestants – the same contestants he will be competing against next week with no safety net of a save left.
"I don't know what just happened," he tells PEOPLE. "All of a sudden I was like 10 feet in the air!"
