They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Apparently it's worth thousands of emoticons, too.

Three of PEOPLE's most provocative stories this week, as measured by clicks on the emoticons at the bottom, involved great new photos. Sweet, surprising and funny, they captured stars at their most revealing, enduring and amusing.

Time for another family portrait! Little Prince George sat for an adorable photo this week with his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with the family dog Lupo. Taken by Jason Bell, the candid, relaxed photo was almost universally loved by readers.

Another amazing new photo this week captured Doris Day, the legendary actress and singer, who turned 90 on Tuesday. The snapshot, taken recently, shows Day waving outside her Carmel, Calif., home – and, like the royal photo, a furry companion makes a cameo.

On a much more somber note, readers reacted with anger this week to the story of Jessica Dutro, who allegedly beat her almost 4-year-old son Zachary to death because she thought he was gay. Dutro is charged with murder, murder by abuse and second-degree assault.

The celebrity breakup of the week that left readers feeling the saddest was that of Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald, who are divorcing after two and a half years of marriage. The Twilight actress and the American Idol musician "remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together," her rep says.

Finally, nothing brings out the laughs quite like comedian Roseanne Barr posting as though she's reality star Kim Kardashian. "Hey #kanye," Barr Tweeted on Tuesday after posting a provocative photo of herself. So far, no word back from West.
