One of the world's most famous families met one of the world's most unusual animals: the dugong.

During a visit to the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium on Sept. 8, Angelina Jolie and her kids Knox, 5, Vivienne, 5, Shiloh, 7, Zahara, 8, and Pax, 9, came face-to-face with the aquarium's pair of dugongs, Pig and Wuru. The large marine mammals, which resemble manatees, are two of only six on display anywhere in the world. (For more information about the dugong, see the educational video below.)

A day earlier, Jolie, 38, took her brood to the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, where they saw Australian wildlife such as koalas, a ring-tailed possum and various reptiles.

At the aquarium, "the family loved their tour, with one of the highlights being a glass bottom boat experience where they were able to feed tropical marine animals in the Great Barrier Reef exhibit," says spokeswoman Kristy Enright.

Jolie is Down Under to prep for her directorial effort, the WWII drama Unbroken, which is in part to be filmed on the Gold Coast and in the Brisbane area starting in mid-October.

Missing out on the fun for now: Brad Pitt, who took a quick trip to Toronto to promote his film 12 Years a Slave before returning to the U.K., where's he's about to shoot his own WWII thriller, Fury.
