And that distance covers 5,000 meters – for a 5K race.
The 10-year-old Tobias, of Edmond, Okla., wrote a heartfelt letter to a local TV station seeking its help so that he can give his brother a chance at a normal life.
In the handwritten note, Tobias explained that brother Titus, who is older by just a year, suffers from cerebral palsy. Tobias added that his sibling, who is deaf and underwent surgery to remove his stomach, cries whenever he sees other children playing outside.
So Tobias made a decision: He was determined to participate with his brother in a 5K race at a local school, pushing Titus along in a jogging stroller.
In his letter to Oklahoma's News 9 program, Tobias asked for the station's aid in securing a jogging stroller that he can borrow on behalf of Titus.
"My pastor said we have to be God's hands and feet but I'm going to be his legs [too]," Tobias wrote. "I would start by pushing him in a 5K and we would work our way up to [an] Ironman contest someday."
Tobias got his wish, and then some: Moved by the youngster's deep resolve, the station reached out to a local program that helps persons with disabilities, which in turn provided a jogging stroller for Tobias and Titus.
And it's theirs to keep.
The race was held Friday – and Tobias and Titus successfully crossed the finish line together. But even before they received the jogging stroller, Tobias already had big plans brewing for other races down the road.
"I will volunteer myself out to any other parent who [wants] me to run their disabled children in a 5K," he writes in his letter. "I can be the legs for more than one kid."
