Senior editor Zoe Ruderman and I both know John Searles well (we used to work for him), and it's hard for us to believe that such an upbeat person is capable of writing such dark books! (We mean that in the nicest way possible.) His new release, about a young girl whose parents are self-proclaimed "saviors of haunted souls" (a fancy way of saying demonologists), is his most disturbingly engrossing yet.
