Andy Abrahams, Editorial Manager

His Pick: Nine Inches by Tom Perrotta

In this smart, knowing collection, the Little Children author turns again to his favorite topic: the complicated lives behind suburbia's neatly-mowed facade. The title story, about two teachers (and former lovers) chaperoning a middle-school dance and realizing what they've lost, is especially strong. If you thought you knew your next-door neighbors, Perotta's keenly observed tales will make you think twice.

Kim Hubbard, Books Editor

Her Pick: Masterminds and Wingmen by Rosalind Wiseman

The author of Queen Bees and Wannabes, about the lives of adolescent girls, has turned her attention to boys – and for anyone with sons, it's not a moment too soon. Why is the answer to what happened at school today always "nothing?" What the heck do boys talk about with their friends? And just how bad are video games? Wiseman helps you get inside those frustrating, lovable heads.

Her Pick: Help for the Haunted by John Searles

Senior editor Zoe Ruderman and I both know John Searles well (we used to work for him), and it's hard for us to believe that such an upbeat person is capable of writing such dark books! (We mean that in the nicest way possible.) His new release, about a young girl whose parents are self-proclaimed "saviors of haunted souls" (a fancy way of saying demonologists), is his most disturbingly engrossing yet.
