Beverly Carter
Pulaski County Sheriff's Office
Officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff's office arrested 33-year-old Aaron Lewis and interviewed him for 12 hours on Monday.
Early Tuesday morning, Carter's body was found about 25 miles away from where she was last seen. Police have charged Lewis with capital murder. He is being held on $1 million bond.
Authorities have not publicly stated whether Lewis was the prospective buyer of the house, or if he knew Carter before she disappeared on Thursday.
During his walk from the Sheriff's Office to the jail, Lewis made a few comments to the assembled media.
"Sorry to the family," he said at one point.
Carter, 49, is survived by her husband of more than 30 years, Carl. She had two grown sons and four grandchildren. A fifth grandchild was on the way.
The family has been left reeling from their sudden loss.
"We are incredibly heartbroken," they wrote on their Find Beverly Facebook page. "Thank you all SO MUCH for spending hours researching, walking through fields and spreading the word so fast about Beverly Lyn Carter's abduction. No words. #WeWearRed still today because we love her. #FindBeverly #RememberBeverly"
