Franklin's cover of "Rolling in the Deep" is that rare remake that gives the original a run for its money – but even the most protective Adele fans won't mind once they hear it. (It contains a mash-up of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough.")
At 72, Franklin isn't afraid to take on a whole slew of hard-to-beat favorites for her upcoming album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, out Oct. 21. The release will feature "At Last" by Etta James, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, "People" by Barbra Streisand and "No One" by Alicia Keys, to name a few.
Franklin's new album will just miss the deadline for the 2015 Grammy Awards, but here's an idea for the telecast: Get both divas on stage to sing "Rolling in the Deep" together.
