But amid the nervous looks and awkward laughter, there was a specific set of stars who couldn't have had a better night: the former faces of Saturday Night Live.
In addition to hosting, Amy Poehler took home a best comedic TV actress Golden Globe for her role on Parks & Recreation, an honor she celebrated by making out with Bono. "Wow, I was not prepared for this!" she said onstage. "I've never won anything like this."
Shortly before her, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg scored a Golden Globe of his own for best TV comedic actor, a moment made even sweeter when it was presented to him by Seth Meyers. Echoing Poehler's comments about being unprepared, the comedian quipped of his win, "It wasn't gonna happen."

Not to be upstaged by their winning counterparts, the non-nominated SNL stars also made the most of their time onstage, with Jimmy Fallon continuing the gag that Poehler and Tina Fey started in their monologue, ribbing Matt Damon. Fallon presented alongside Melissa McCarthy, who pretended to impersonate the Behind the Candelabra star after a backstage accident left her confused about her identity and proceeded to shout-out Damon's "beautiful wife."

Soon-to-be Late Night host Meyers joined his co-presenter, Julie Bowen, in promising the Hollywood Foreign Press Association "favors" in exchange for a nomination next year. "We get how this works," he said to the HFPA, "and we're ready to play ball … We can do stuff to each other and you can just watch."
But there's no topping the enthusiasm of Fey and Poehler, who proved the joke's on the audience by landing whip-smart jabs at the many in attendance, including Taylor Swift. "I love you and there's a special place in hell for you," the 30 Rock scribe quipped to her best friend following her Globe win, a clever reference to comments the singer made last year when the hosts needled her about her dating.
