Authorities in Turkey have detained a Ukrainian passenger who tried to hijack an Istanbul-bound plane to Sochi, Russia, where the Olympics are kicking off, according to reports.
The Pegasus Airlines plane landed Friday in Istanbul after the passenger "said that there was a bomb on board" in the baggage hold, an official with Turkey's Transportation Ministry tells CNN.
TRT television in Turkey says the plane sent a hijacking signal and authorities convinced the passenger to give himself up. The man was now in police custody.
Authorities had no immediate comment on why the alleged hijacker wanted to divert the plane.
