Having saved the future in World War Z, Brad Pitt revisits the brutal past of 70 years ago in his upcoming World War II drama, Fury.
The first trailer, just released, shows Pitt, 50, as a war-hardened tank commander with a shrinking platoon on a mission behind the German lines. He's joined by a cast that includes Shia LaBeouf, Michael Peña and Percy Jackson's Logan Lerman.
Pitt has tackled WWII before, of course, in Inglourious Basterds. But in this film, which hits theaters Nov. 14, he has a much more haunted yet defiant look.
"He's playing this badass, hard, tough, intense guy. It's a different kind of role for him," director David Ayer told PEOPLE in May. "He's insanely good in this thing."
Ayer said he wanted to make "the ultimate tank movie. Everyone's done D-Day, these big battles of the war, but no one's really told the life of the spearhead of the U.S. Army of the time, which was these tank crews. It's a great opportunity to take a group of guys, put 'em in this claustrophobic environment, and see how they work together as a team."
