Country stars went to bat for a good cause Saturday at Greer Stadium in Nashville, raising over $200,000 for cancer research at the 24th annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Game during CMA Music Fest.

And while everyone was there to have a little fun and support the cause, it hit a little closer to home for some.

"I have a connection to cancer, like so many out there do," Nashville's Chip Esten told PEOPLE Country. "When my daughter was 2, she was diagnosed with leukemia. She's now 14 and extremely happy and healthy, and strong and beautiful. I know that that's thanks to the good people who do research."

"I lost my aunt to cancer a few years back and that had a big impact on my family," said Jamie Lynn Spears. "So I'd like to do anything I can to help other families not go through that."

But even though everyone was there in the spirit of charity, it was still game on!

"I'm a born and raised trash-talker," said southern slugger Lauren Alaina, who caught for the Grand Ole Opry team. "I've been playing softball my whole life. I say something different to everyone who comes up to bat!"

"It's a game for everyone else, but I make it my own homerun derby," said Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley, who played for the iHeartRadio team. "I just swing for the fence every time! Go big or go home!"

Alas, the Opry team, which included Esten, Spears, Alaina, Jana Kramer, Chuck Wicks, Scotty McCreery, and Jessie James Decker, edged out iHeartRadio, whose roster included Florida Georgia Line, Dustin Lynch, Sara Evans and Danielle Bradbery, with a score of 13-11.
