Claire Danes may spend her days crying on the Homeland set, but the Emmy-winning actress has no problems leaving her character’s problems behind thanks to her son Cyrus Michael Christopher.

“The material is very dark and it is so nice to come home and be jarred out of that state by this buoyant butterball — this bundle of love,” Danes, 34, told reporters Monday at Showtime’s Summer Television Critics Association tour in Beverly Hills.

“I have this beautiful little boy to just kind of go ‘bing’ and just erase it all very quickly.”

Danes and husband Hugh Dancy welcomed baby Cyrus in December. And despite telling Elle she “would make a lousy stay-at-home mom,” the actress now confesses she was nervous to return to work earlier this year for her hit show’s third season.

“I was anxious about returning. I was so in my cozy mommy bubble and I had all sorts of exaggerated fears,” she says. “But it has been great.”

After she wraps the current season of Homeland, Danes says she will join her husband in Toronto where he is filming his NBC drama Hannibal .

“It will be my turn to be holding down the domestic fort,” Danes explains. “We feel so fortunate that we get to work in tandem like this. There is, like, a month overlap but basically it is ‘his turn, my turn.’”

For now, Danes is enjoying bringing her son with her to set. “[Our director Lesli Linka Glatter] will hold him and direct,” she says. “She’s literally bobbing him [in her arms] and says, ‘Action.’ It’s very cool. It’s very sweet.”
