Lindsay Lohan Needs More Therapy to Avoid 'Almost Certain Failure,' Counselors Say

Lindsay Lohan just wrapped up a 90-day stay in court-ordered rehab but that doesn't mean her work is done.

The judge who sent her into treatment earlier this year after she violated probation by lying to police ordered the 27-year-old to attend therapy sessions three times a week for the next 16 months to help avoid relapsing.

He made the decision Wednesday – just hours after the starlet left rehab at Cliffside Malibu – on the recommendation of the center.

In a letter to the judge, Cliffside says that while Lohan had "successfully completed her court-ordered course of treatment at the center," the center believes it is "critical" that she attends court-ordered therapy – specifically three 50-minute sessions a week.

"Our entire clinical team is in unanimous agreement that if these sessions are not required by the court and attendance verified once a month to ensure accountability, it is a set up for almost certain failure," the letter states.

Taking into account the actress's schedule, Richard Taite, Cliffside Malibu's founder and CEO, suggests that the sessions "should be done face to face while she is in town, and via Skype or phone session if she is out of town."

Lohan had previously been in rehab at least six times and told Piers Morgan after she was ordered back to treatment in May that she didn't believe court-mandated rehab would help her.

"Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless," she claimed. "The first few times I was court-ordered to rehab it was like a joke, like killing time."

It would seem she's had a change of heart since then, with Cliffside Malibu declaring, "We couldn't be happier with the progress Ms. Lohan has made."
