We may have been surprised by Rosario Dawson‘s half-shaved head look back in June — but Dawson herself is surprised it took us so long to catch on.
“Everyone says it’s going to grow out really badly, but I’ve had it since October and most people haven’t even noticed it,” she told PEOPLE. ” A little bit past this [length], it’s almost unnoticeable. I just [sweep it to the side] and it looks like I’ve put it over my ear or something.”

She’s not kidding — as far back as February, she looked like she had her naturally long locks. But she loves it, especially in the N.Y.C. heat, especially when she has so much else to deal with — like her suddenly terrible skin.
“I’m from New York but I’ve realized how long its been since I’ve been here because my face wasn’t acclimated,” she said at the opening of N.Y.C.’s Watermark bar. “I had bad skin all of a sudden! I had to get exfoliator and all this stuff … I was like ‘What happened?!’”
