"I'm small, but he's large," the 5'2" Nashville star said on Wednesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show about her 6'6" fiancé, heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.
"That's how we met. I said, 'You're huge.' He said, 'You're tiny.' "
Panettiere said the on-again, off-again relationship between the couple, who confirmed their engagement last month, was "God telling us [that we] were too far on either end of the spectrum. He needs to make normal people."
Joked Ellen DeGeneres about the couple's having kids, "The two of you are going to make normal people between you and him?"
"Yeah," Panettiere said with a laugh. "He's got bowlegs. I've got knocked knees. They're going to have straight legs. They'll be normal height."
Although Panettiere, 24, told DeGeneres that Klitschko, 37, is a "good dude," as a Ukrainian "he's very confused about our traditions," the actress said, imitating Klitschko's not understanding why he's not allowed to see a bride in her dress before the wedding – or the meaning of a honeymoon.
Still, there's an upside, she notes: "He doesn't know the woman's side of the family is supposed to pay for the wedding. Sssshhh!"
"Oh, that's smart," DeGeneres acknowledged.
Concluded Panettiere, "We don't need him to know that."
