For the third week in a row, The Voice coach – and PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive – not only kept his team of three intact, but avoided the dreaded bottom three, which this week featured one contestant representing each of his fellow coaches.
Team Adam's Tessanne Chin, 28, Will Champlin, 30, and James Wolpert, 22, were all saved, along with Jacquie Lee, 16, of Team Christina Aguilera and Cole Vosbury, 22, of Team Blake Shelton.
That left "swamp pop" singer Ray Boudreaux, 25, of Team Blake, sweet songstress Caroline Pennell, 17, of Team Cee Lo Green (she benefited from an instant save last week) and Matthew Schuler, 21, of Team Christina in the bottom three. Schuler's inclusion clearly baffled his coach, as well as Levine, who referenced his memorable performance of "Hallelujah" two weeks earlier as a reason Schuler should stay on the show.
Once again, the somewhat controversial Twitter "instant save," which gave viewers five minutes to vote for their favorite artist before the end of the show, determined the fate of the trio.
So who went home and who moved on to the Top 6?
Schuler, a Pennsylvania college student who works part-time in a bagel shop, will continue his Voice journey, which means Boudreaux and Pennell were sent home.
Pennell's departure spells the end of Team Cee Lo, as she was his sole artist.
However, both he and Pennell seemed to know their time in the competition was coming to an end even before the elimination.
"Don't worry about me because I'm always affectionately the underdog," he told host Carson Daly early on in the show. "It's all good with me."
Even Pennell, a New Jersey high-school student who looked petrified in the bottom three last week, seemed much more relaxed Tuesday before bidding adieu.
"I'm in such a good place in my life right now," she said before her elimination. "I love being here and it doesn't end here for me. I have so many things to look forward to."
The live shows continue Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
