Ryan Bensen, 40, and Erica Manley, 37, are under arrest after they paid for their tab at the Twisted Fish Steakhouse in the town of Seaside with a gift card, and allegedly left their waitress an envelope stuffed with crystal meth instead of paying the gratuity in cash.
"She was like, 'Whoa — what the …?' " the Twisted Fish's manager told the Oregonian . "We're not a little dive bar or hole in the wall. We're a classy place."
Instead of living out a Breaking Bad fantasy, the waitress called the Seaside police, who quickly arrived on the scene and arrested Bensen and Manley, who were still on the premises.
"I think the waitress was stunned and probably offended that somebody would think she was a user of a methamphetamine," Seaside Police Chief Robert Gross told the New York's Daily News.
A search of Manley's purse reportedly turned up an additional 17 ounces of meth.
After the arrest, Seaside police obtained a search warrant for the couple's hotel room in the small coastal town. There, they allegedly discovered that Manley and Bensen had turned their room at the Holiday Inn Express into a makeshift meth lab.
They are both being held on charges of possessing and manufacturing methamphetamines.
"While I should be shocked and surprised, it's just another example of how dumb these users and dealers are," Chief Gross told the Oregonian. "The whole thing almost made me chuckle."
