The nephew of actor Liam Neeson has suffered a serious head injury after falling from the top of a seaside phone booth in England.

Police say 31-year-old Ronan Sexton was out with friends in Brighton at around 4 a.m. last Sunday morning when he fell about 20 feet from a phone kiosk beside the pier.

He was admitted to a local hospital but later transferred to a specialist neurological center. Sussex Police said Friday that Sexton is in critical condition, and there were no suspicious circumstances to the incident.

"Ronan is receiving wonderful treatment from the dedicated staff at Hurstwood Park," his family said in a statement. "We gratefully receive all the love, support, prayers and good wishes for Ronan's full recovery to good health. We would appreciate privacy at this time."

Sexton's mother, Bernadette, is the sister of Northern Irish actor Neeson.

Neeson's wife, actress Natasha Richardson, died in March 2009 after hitting her head while skiing. Neeson said in February he had found it hard to accept her death, telling 60 Minutes: "It was never real. It still kind of isn't."
