Followers of Jessica Simpson‘s Instagram know that the star has a very distinctive vibe when it comes to her home — it’s warm, comfortable and romantic, with plenty of overstuffed pillows and patterned fabrics (see a few glimpses below). And now she’s bringing that aesthetic to a line of home goods, which just launched with bedding in Bed Bath & Beyond stores and will continue to roll out with quilts, kitchen and bath across more retailers later this year. The singer (and soon-to-be-bride) chatted with PEOPLE about the latest addition to the Jessica Simpson empire.

If you’ve been thinking that a home collection has been a long time coming for the design mogul, you’d be right. “We started working on designs after [2-year-old daughter] Maxwell was born and Eric and I were moving into our new house,” Simpson tells PEOPLE. “We have wanted to add [home] to the collection for a while. I work alongside my mom on my collection and we both share a passion for home interiors, so branching out into this category has been really inspiring for us.”
So far, the designs appear to reflect Simpson’s girlie sensibilities, with lots of bohemian prints, paisleys and color. And they reflect the vibe she’s looking to have in her own home: “traditional with a little Southern charm,” she says. “I love to collect unique, vintage pieces that add to the character of my home. We spend a lot of time at home entertaining our friends and family, and I love how comforting and welcoming our space feels. We have an outdoor living space that connects to the living room and the kitchen — I love the coziness of an open space.”

At the moment, Simpson’s partial to the paisley print bed set and notes she’s particularly excited for the quilts to hit stores, as they reflect what her mom has taught her about furnishing her home. “My mom has always taught me to have an eclectic sensibility when it comes to design,” Simpson says. “She showed me I can intermix and interchange different fabrics, colors, textures and patterns to make my home unique.” (Adds mom Tina: “I always say a home should give you the biggest hug after a long day!”)
